Working on some bases...

Hello,

I have spent the past few days working on some new bases for my ogres.  I have been using some new stuff I found in my cabinet.  A while back I ordered a basing kit from Skullcrafts.  This kit included what he calls black texture paste.  I am trying this material out instead of my usual concrete patch.

So far I like using this stuff.  It is a lot easier to work with than the concrete patch.  It leaves a similar texture, and is easier to spread and smooth out.  I did find one minor quibble with my first batch I did.  I found that I did not spread the paste as evenly as I would have liked.  I ended up with this.

Very patchy, If I remember correctly it did not look that bad when i put it on. So I need to go back and fill in some of the more glaring gaps. I did some figuring and decided the problem was that I was spreading a black paste on a black base.(brilliant deduction I know)
So I very lightly primed the bases with white primer(Duplicolor FTW).

Doing this made spreading the second batch much easier.

But know I am out of paste, I am waiting on my order to come in from Skullcrafts,  I also ordered some static grass from them.  They have a better selection of colors then I can normally find around town.

StormEaters Rise Again...

Hello again,

Damn three posts in a week, That's some kind of record for me. So this past weekend was the release of the next 8ed Warhammer army book

Ogre kingdoms, which was my third completely painted army (and if rumors are true, when necrons come out in the fall, all three of my first armies will have been re-released).

So I am excited about this new release. I needed something to get my juices flowing again for Warhammer. I will leave the reviews of the book and new units to some of the larger sites on the web like:

I pulled out my army case early last week to take stock of what I have.

Pretty good sized army.  I decided I did not like the basing, being one of my original armies.  All it was is Woodland Scenics  ballast glued to GF9   magnetic bases.  So I picked up a bunch of 40 mm bases and added magnets to 'em.  and tried some stuff I got a while back from SkullCrafts.  The Black texture paste, to be exact.  This is a pic of my old base on the left and a half finished new base on the right

So far I like the new base, but I am waiting on some different colors of static grass to come in to finish it off. I also am glad I got my cookbook for colors or I would never match the original scheme.  (which gives me a idea for a post for next week)  The only problem is I have to update, due to the GW inks being OOP.

I also made a early trip into work and grabed this on Saturday (took me two stores)

I think I am going to pick up a battalion at some point, so I can put together a horde unit.

BFG Tau Fleet

Hello, The BFG campaign that was being run at my local GW just finished recently. I was at the bottom of the pile, but still I had fun. I had to flake out of the last few turns due to work and life getting in the way, which I hope they won't hold against me to much. Anyways I was playing the original Tau fleet from GW(not the Forge World fleet). The models look a hell of a lot better on the table than those horrible pics on the GW site. I ended up using almost the same exact color scheme that was on them before I stripped 'em and started over. The fleet is cool, I think my problem is its not really my play style. That being said I am going to go ahead and add a few more ships to the fleet, Warspheres and Demiburg to be exact. I also want to get the Forge World ordnance markers eventually. (The pics are not the greatest, didn't have my lights set up right I guess)

Few Shots of the Entire Fleet I think they turned out fairly well, I wished I would have had them finished before the end of the campaign. We all know painted models do better on the table.

I also put a magnet in the base of every flying stem,

I have not really put the magnetic transport to the the test yet, but the only one that might give me some problems is the exploerer (be hunk on metal on a itty bitty stand.

I made a couple of large navigational compasses to

I took the compass and enlarged it and glued it to the bottom of a Battleship sized flying base, Pretty slick if you ask me. Well I am off now. I need to look at getting another fleet finished. I don't know which I have bitz and pieces of several. I may just try something new.

By the Blood Of Sanguinius!

Hello again,
Last week for my birthday I went to visit my brother for a few days. While I was there he brought out my birthday cake he had made for me.

It was awesome, and tasty to boot. He said he had randomly picked out the emblem from the GW site. But, since I am slowly working on a Blood Angels army, I thought it was even sweeter.

Thanks bro
